i tried putting old chip back in and it now does same thing- stays on for a minute then shuts off with yellow light steady on. so it is not the chip

Let me start from beginning. Had white and black dots so ordered replacement DLP chip. replaced chip and picture was perfect except that it shut off after 1 minute. then steady yellow light came on, to eliminate variable of chip i put old chip back in and picture had black and white dots and now shut off after 1 minute then steady yellow light. By pressing input and menu you get troubleshooting code. code 38 exists and it states lamp temperature high
