Additionally, please describe how these devices are connected to the TV using what kind of cable(s).

Have you checked / replaced the HDMI cable?
Sorry "...direct connect..." ?
What is the "...direct connect..." please? ...or would it be the cable box directly connected to the Samsung TV by HDMI?
And is this a fresh / new install? ...or were all these working together before as expected and this no picture/sound just a recent issue?
Bear with me for a final test; use another known to be good HDMI capable source such as a DVD player (from another TV) + its also known to be good HDMI cable and directly connect to the Samsung TV's HDMI port (try all).
