Customer: Haven't done anything. It is a Samsung purchased in 09

Unless the on function is built into the TV, there is really no way to do it. Most have sleep timers as yours most likely has, but turning on one of the newer TV's with an external timer is just about impossible.

It does appear your TV has this function available. I am checking further.

Check the setup menu. The timer function resides there. Make sure you have the TV clock set or the timer will not function.
