I have a 65 inch...
I have a 65 inch tv - almost 12 years old. Today a black box covers most of the screen. I have access to the menu, and have the remote. I can change the channel. The tv is hooked up to a Cox cable box. I have tried to change plp and cc settings. Sometimes the boxes multiply, but I cannot get the to go away. Any ideas?

If you turn off the cable box , does that change anything on the screen , does that affect that square ?

O.k then the tv itself generates that and if it does multiply at times as you said then it has to be something about the PIP

On the TV's remote if you press the PIP/POP button does that do anything ?

Is the switch at the top of the remote set to TV ?

Is that the tv`s original remote ?

That PIP/POP button should have some sort of effect even if it doesn`t correct the problem ,it cannot be dead

That's closed caption text mode and that hasn`t been used in over 25 Years

You must have touched something like changed the TV's input or something , the closed caption cannot cut off the picture

That's what I`m trying to do here but I don`t know what you touched beside the captions , as I said the captions cannot turn off the picture , at most it would be that box .

If you have sound through the tv then don`t touch the input

Sorry but I cannot be there to do this myself and by the look of it the remote is not the same as in the manual for the model number you gave me and who knows what else is different

Last thing I can think of is to pull out the TV's power cord to reset it
