- Does the sound drop out on other connected video devices/ sources to TV?

If so then yes, it is TV internal issue and should be return to get replacement TV.

And if problem occurs only when watch cable channel then please try another HDMI cable (must be high speed HDMI cable) to see if it helps and if problem still persist then I would suggest to ask your cable company to swap the cable box.
