Phillips LCD TV 40PFL4706

Thank you for confirming. Unfortunately, that is not an option in this case. Being an older model tv (2011 model) this philips tv was made before the amazon instant video service was mainstream. Because it is now discontinued, and philips in general does not support their products very well, there have been no updates to add that functionality. This is a limitation of the philips firmware. The only way it would ever be added is if philips wrote their own amazon app and then released and update for the tv with that functionality. That is extremely unlikely to happen.Your best option to get amazon instant video services, as well as many other apps/features that the philips doesn't support on its own, is to add an external steaming device. For $30-100 you can buy a chromecast, roku, appletv, fire tv, htpc or smart bluray player and get all the same functions as the philips already has and many more, with better performance and future support for other expanded features. Since your main goals is amazon video, a fire tv box or stick would be the best option. Fire stick: tv: Bluray:

Thanks I was afraid of that. Would an inexpensive one work as well?

I'm not sure what you mean by an inexpensive one. There are 2 devices made by amazon that would work best for the amazon instant video. If you want to keep costs down, get the amazon fire tv stick. You won't find anything less expensive that will work any better (or at all). You can buy a fire tv stick here:
