hi there, we have an rca tv, model number L42WD22YX6. Within the past couple of weeks it has "refused" to turn on. It will turn on for a moment and then shut off. If we unplug it and then plug it back in it was working but now it won't even do that. The green power button is now flashing red. Is there anything that we can do? The tv is about 3 years old I believe. Thanks
Hello, My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will be glad to assist you. Please keep in mind that there may be a few minutes between replies, as I research your problem.

How long have you had the set for?
Did the problem occur after a storm or power outage?

Also, does the power light blink continuously, or in a pattern (such as 5 blinks, pause, 5 blinks, pause, etc.)?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

We have had the set for about 3 years. No storms or power outages. Yes, it blinks 5 times and then a pause

Thanks for the reply.
When the set shuts down like this after a second or two, and the light blinks 5 times- this is an error code indicating a short inside the TV that requires service.

Are you looking to repair the set yourself? If so you will need a meter and to remove the back of the TV and take some voltage readings inside the set. Let me know and I can help you and provide links to parts?

Or are you looking for a diagnosis and repair estimate?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I'm not too sure if it is worth the cost of the repair. I guess I would like to have an idea of the cost in order to make our decision. We don't have a meter either that I'm aware of. I guess I need a repair estimate please.

I suppose I should get a link to the part as well.

Thanks for the reply.

There's the possibility or two possible failures in the set that cause the 5 blinks.

The problem is that the backlight inverter boards (Slave and master), or the power supply output rail that feeds the inverters has failed. The power supply output needs to be tested for voltages both under load and no load to determine which board has the fault.

Unfortunately there are no resets or buttons you can press to fix the problem and the set will require service. Average cost for this type of repair is around $250 parts and labor if the inverters are found faulty, or also $250 parts and labor if it's determined the power supply is the culprit. The problem is going to be either one or the other.
