We have had a Samsung LCD [/topics-lcd/] TV for six years, a few weeks ago the screen went blank but the sound stayed on. We took it to a repair shop and they replaced the main board, we took it home and it worked for a day and then the same problem happened again. We took it back to the repair shop and they told us that one of our HDMI [/topics-hdmi/] connections was bad so they blocked that connection and set it home with us. It worked for a day and the same problem came back, and it isn't a bad connection because the screen is blank on all of the inputs. We are getting ready to take it back to the shop, but are hoping to get some insight into what the problem is.

Initially, does the description of "...screen went blank..." mean that the whole screen is blue, black or white?

On most LCD types of TV including this model and no video but with sound, fault would be:

• blue screen - main board / video board;
• white screen - T-CON board;
• black screen - inverter board.

Consider an experiment. Power on the TV and set to a program/channel. If at all possible, darken the room where the TV is. Wait for about 5 minutes or more. Shine a flashlight at an angle (not directly) and nearly but not touching the screen where the volume level / menu display is usually seen. Press the VOL UP/DOWN or MENU button and note if a dark/ghostly image of the volume level or MENU could be seen.

Postback results.

The above is a test to determine if it is a backlighting issue.

Hi,

I just tried what was suggested and yes, I could see a ghostly image as described. I could faintly see the program on the screen in the same manner.
