somehow i wiped out everything on my olevia. It's about 4 yrs old. Using the buttons on the front of the set I can get to auto channel search, but the set won't recognize the remote at all so I can't up or down to select the search. I'm stuck

Please reply with the exact model number from your unit. Typically - this can be found on the Manufacturer's tag on the back (near the power plug).

Also -

What signal source are you using (Cable, Satellite, Antenna, DVD)?
Does the picture appear for any length of time, or never?

Do you have sound?

Does the problem happen on ALL input sources?
Can you successfully watch a DVD or play a video game using another input selection?

Are you able to bring up the On-Board settings menu?
Does the problem happen over the settings menu as well - or does it appear the problem is BEHIND the menu?

Have you verified the remote is sending a signal?

Finally - do you have experience repairing TVs and testing live circuits, or are you looking for a diagnostic and repair estimate?

it's wall mounted so i can't see the model/serial number. it has the following buttons on the lower right front of the tv itself: on, menu, channel up, channel down, volume+, volume-, and source. The only thing the tv will recognize from the remote is on/off. I made sure using the source button on the front of the tv is on tuner. I just pushed the source button on the front of the tv and put it on component, and inserted a dvd. It appears that it would play. My problem is that the TV for some reason is not acknowleding the remote. I can get, using the buttons on the front of the tv, to auto channel search, but without it recognizing the remote, i can't select up or down arrows the way i would on the remote, so it can't get past showing me that i can choose auto channel set up. I am connected to cable. wish i could tell you the model. I was wrong about its age, it's more like 6 years old. It was working fine until last night. I don't know what button i inadvertantly pushed on the remote, but I wiped out everything. If I could just get the tv to acknowledge the remote i could redo setup.

the remote came with the tv, it says at the bottom "OLEVIA RC-LTU". It has buttons at the top: TV, STB, DVD, VCR, AUDIO, A, B, C. Below that a "function" button, below that the numbers for channel selection, channel return, audio, menu, then the middle "enter" button with arrows pointing left, right, up and down. Below that "source" button that lets you select: component, VGA, VGA component, tuner. Then below that volume up and down and channel up and down. Below that 12 buttons with: sleep, favorite, display, lightingk, freeze, cc, autok, aspect, swap, view, guide, info. Below that, I'm guessing DVD selections (which I don't use) reverse, forward, play, pause. I wish I could see the back of the tv, but it's heavy and I can't lift it off the wall mount alone. The only thing the TV will allow the remote to do is turn the tv on and off. Other than that it doesn't recognize any buttons I push.

If it is THIS ONE:

This is an Olevia universal remote control.

CLICK HERE to see your owners manual and programming instructions.

Manually turn on the device you want to program the remote to control.

Use the "Function" button located at the top of the Olevia remote control to select the type of device you want to program the remote to control ("TV," "STB," "DVD," "VCR," "Audio," Miscellaneous "A," Miscellaneous "B" or Miscellaneous "C.")

Press and hold the "Enter" and "Function" buttons together. Release the buttons when the LED indicator light for the selected device flashes once.

Use the number pad on the remote to enter one of the four-digit device codes assigned to the device's brand. The LED light indicator light for the selected device should flash an orange light three times if the code was entered properly.

Aim the Olevia remote control at the device you are programming it to control. Press the "Power" button designated for the selected device ("TV," "STB," "DVD," "VCR," "Audio," "A," "B" or "C"). The Power buttons are located at the very top of the remote control. If the device shuts off, the remote has been successfully programmed. If the device fails to shut of, repeat Steps 2 through 5 using an alternate device code in Step 4.

Alternately:

HOLD THE FUNCTION AND ENTER AT THE SAME TIME ON TV.
THE TV LIGHT SHOULD FLASH AND GO OFF.
THEN PROGRAM THE REMOTE - ENTER THE CODE 0000 (if that doesn't work - try 0001)
THEN THE TV LIGHT SHOULD FLASH THREE TIMES
PRESS POWER ON THE REMOTE AND IT SHOULD WORK.

i think i give up. The only thing the tv will recognize from the remote is on and off. When I push function and enter at the same time nothing happens because the tv doesn't recognize the remote. i guess i'm gonna have to give up on this tv. I hate to because it was working really well until I guess I pushed something on the remote wrong. When I use the buttons on the tv itself I can get to auto channel setup, but without it recognizing the remote I can't up or down to actually do the channel search.

It's very frustrating.

you tried to help me a week ago with my Olevia 32" wall mount tv. i had given up trying to get the tv to recognize the remote, but earlier this afternoon i finally got lucky, using your instructions about holding down the the function button and the menu button on the tv simultaneously. now the tv recognizes the remote, but although i can get to auto channel select, cable, auto, when i push the enter button on the remote to do the channel search, nothing happens. It recognizes the enter button until i get to that last element, auto, but then when i push enter nothing happens. the tv just keeps saying no channels in list.

i have finally gotten the tv to recognize the remote, and got all excited thinking i could now get the tv to do the auto channel search and reload the channels. But i can get all the way to the search, cable, auto, but when i push enter on the remote nothing happens.

Can you change it to AIR - first.... then return to the menu and select CABLE?
Will it accept THAT change?

i am on cable. When i push menu on the remote the icon comes up on the screen, then i enter setup, then tv, then auto channel search, i can go up and down to air, cable. When I choose cable, then auto, that's when the tv stops recognizing that i'm pressing the enter button. It gets all the way there then nothing. Over and over again i've gone through this series of choices and every time it gets to where i think maybe it's gonna do the auto search, but nothing. Even when I try auto channel search on air, nothing happens.

It seems the tuner, then, is the issue - not a button you may have pressed.
