just the tv. the set is about 18 months old. problems started 3 or 4 hours ago
Do you still have warranty on the TV ?
I cant find it.
No problem. Have you tried using any other input source like a DVD player.
Try check other inputs(composite, component etc). Let me know if the line stays, regardless of which input you use.
the dvd player is part of the tv, it is on the side of it

Can you please try that out? Also try out one more thing. Press the Menu button on the remote and get the on screen menu on the TV. Let me know if you see the line there too.
it is still there on the dvd use. will try the other

You can continue using it as long as possible if you can manage. Else the only way around it is to get the panel changed. The cost of that including service is more than the cost of the TV. So getting a new one will be wiser.
Just try finding your warranty documents in case you got extended warranty on the set by chance. In that case the repair will be free.
