What that means is that the TV set must have an HDMI connection that can OUTPUT it's TV signal to the HDMI INPUT and deliver it BACK to the Home Theater.

Sony never designed it's inputs to also be OUTPUTS...most TV manufacturers don't.

So your PREFERRED output on a TV to a Home Theater is the OPTICAL output on the NEWER Sony TV sets. Older ones only had the Tuner on the optical output.

If you need MORE INFO -- I will need your TV's MODEL number off the back of the TV set.
