I'm sorry to hear about the problem.

Does the lines stay there everytime?

Do they change positions?

Do you see them while using different inputs?

Do they appear on the on-screen menu?

yes lines are consistent in the same position. Bands of lines actually. 6 Sets of bands with number 5 being clear of lines. Yes they are there whether on cable or dvd input. Yes they are on the on screen menu as well. We have the back open and could send you pics of the back or screen.

yeah, but more like lighter vertical bands. The horizontal are more defined lines.

There can be three things out of which two quite lss likely to occur. One is badel panel and the other one is bad sustain board. What is more likely to have happened is bad buffer boards. I would have tried reconnecting the buffer cables first(be careful while doing so because the clips are plastic) If you want to repair it yourself then you should be having proper knowledge about the internal circuitry of the TV.
You should also require a multimeter and soldering equipments and schematics.
If you wish to take it to a repair shop would you like to have an idea of the cost of repair?

a friend gave us the t.v. Someone told them a bad y driver and about $600 to repair. Is that possible? you said bad el panel, bad sustain board or bad buffer boards? Do I need the schematic to identify the buffer cables? Here's a pic of the back. You are suggesting disconnecting and reconnecting these cables first and see if that effects the picture?

Sorry for the typo. I meant DISPLAY panel. There are less chances for a bad y-main and more for buffer boards. Also the service manual is required if you're planning for FIY. Its available in for around $13 here. I have it so if you need it I can upload it for you. If you have any other queries then I would be glad to assist you further.

Find no link to download anything. So if its buffers, r u saying that numbers 1-4 and 6 are burnt and try replacing them one at a time? 5 Seems normal....

Yeah we have pulled the buffers and checked some prices on ebay. Looks like about $80 each? Do you have a source for cheaper parts? What are the chances another board like the driver for the y buffers is bad too?
