Have you tried a surge protecctor?
If not then try using it or a different power supply.
From your description of the situation it seems that the problem might have also occured in the high voltage area or any burnt off fuse. The next thing is there might be a faulty capacitor resulting in burnt off resistors and transistors. So the PSU also needs to be checked. There is a possibility that the inverter isnt being able to supply power to the backlight
If you want to repair it yourself then you should be having proper knowledge about the internal circuitry of the TV and especially the PSU.
You should also require a multimeter and soldering equipments.
If you wish to take it to a repair shop would you like to have an idea of the cost of repair?
If you have any other queries then I owuld be glad to assist you further.
