thank you for your timely response. i have been away for a few hours.
basically, these lines began to appear nearly 1 week ago. they run horizontally across my new (17 days old) lcd sony television screen. every other line appears to be a hint brighter than the regular color displayed. also, these lines are creating a sort of ghosting effect, where i see double images/words. the lines are nearly 1 inch thich and do not float or move. i am uncertain if this has to do with an electrical current or interference, but the distortion is not limited to just 1 input. i have my cable box and ps3 each connected to the unit using hdmi cables, so there are very few wires actually connected to my television.

You need to cal for service ASAP, these lines sound like serious trouble, and you don't want the problem getting any worse. You are within your warranty period so it will not cost you any money.
Sounds to me like the panel is bad, I personaly have seen a rash of these sony panels go bad and it is unfortunate, I am a big sony fan.
Ever since their XBR rear projo LCD's thequality has gone down hill. Don't get me wrong, the picture is awesome! but build quality is bad. Get yourself an extended warranty my friend.
Don't even attempt to fix this yourself or you will void your warranty.
