Customer Question
I have a '06...

I have a '06 wrangler automatic w/4,0 120k miles .I installed a reman trans 4 months ago with no problems. less than 1500 miles on it and I get a scraping noise between shifts although it shifts and runs out fine. seller says it needed to be "recalibrated after install" this makes no sense to me .I have installed everything from big Allisons to small PTO'S with no problems , and just did a 4L60E w/no fault. any ideas ? ? thanks , chuck marshall , ASE Master Tech

Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?

Transmission and about 2 months although I have parked it now

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Wrangler yourself? What have you tried so far?

Trying to call on 3yr warranty although I did install it along with a new radiator , flushed lines and fresh plus 4

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

It started between 1-2 and progressed

Welcome, I'm Chris (aka-Moose).

  • THE TIME I AM ONLINE, 7 days a week normally online around midday and then late evening until early morning.
  • PHONE CALLS are automatically offered by the website normally after my first reply. I complete calls where I feel it is a benefit.
  • UPLOADED LINKS I SEND, if I upload dropbox links, they will open on a home PC, often they fail on a work PC, on a phone use the box on the top right of your phone screen for direct download.

Does the noise only occur on the 1-2 shift?

now all the way through each shift
Transmission Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

A noise occurring between each shift from within the transmission would be hard to believe with the vehicle still driveable. I would imagine it would fail pretty soon if that were the case. I am wondering if this is a chain or fork issue in the transfer case or a broken fin weld in the torque converter or a cracked flexplate.

You now will see a rating scale 1=bad to-5=excellent because I have posted a full or partial answer instead of an info request. When you rate I get a portion of the deposit you made, no rating means you still paid, but I earn nothing. My goal is understanding your question, and addressing it in full detail. In return, receiving a 5-star rating. Rating does not close the post or stop the conversation. Please keep in contact and reply as much as needed. Thanks, Chris
