Second opinion] Hard downshifting around 20mph. Took to Hyundai dealer in Billings Montana. They did something with the computer and today it was worse than before I took it in. What do I do now?

Mechanic's Assistant: What year is your Montana?

2009 Hyundai Sonata - Mileage 60,109

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Montana yourself? What have you tried so far?

No, i took it to the dealer in Montana - I live in Wyoming

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Just what I mentioned above

Welcome, I'm Chris (aka-Moose).

  • THE TIME I AM ONLINE, 7 days a week normally online around midday and then late evening until early morning.
  • PHONE CALLS are automatically offered by the website normally after my first reply. I complete calls where I feel it is a benefit.
  • UPLOADED LINKS I SEND, if I upload dropbox links, they will open on a home PC, often they fail on a work PC, on a phone use the box on the top right of your phone screen for direct download.

Does this hard shift occur when coasting to a stop or when driving just above this speed and applying more throttle and causing it to downshift?

When I let off on the accelerater but before I break
Transmission Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 4 months ago

Can you tell which gear this seems to affect, like 1st, 2nd or 3rd?

Ask Your Own Transmissions Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Since I am traveling at 20 mph my guess is 1st gear.
Transmission Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 4 months ago

I believe they need to go into the transmission to address either a concern within the valve body or a concern with the 2nd or reduction brake causing this issue. I am pretty confident this is not a concern with the computer.

You now will see a rating scale 1=bad to-5=excellent because I have posted a full or partial answer instead of an info request. When you rate I get a portion of the deposit you made, no rating means you still paid, but I earn nothing. My goal is understanding your question, and addressing it in full detail. In return, receiving a 5-star rating. Rating does not close the post or stop the conversation. Please keep in contact and reply as much as needed. Thanks, Chris
