1992 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4 Cyl 1.8L Overfilled with oil -

Customer Question
1992 Toyota 4Runner SR5...

1992 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4 Cyl 1.8L
Overfilled with oil - starts but transmission won't engage
Additional Details (recommended)
Quick oil-change but I didn't realize that the Drain Pan must have gotten plugged - and it only half drained. I refilled with the usual 4 quarts and started it up. It wouldn't move so I revved it some and it moved a only a few yards. Went back then and dipped the oil, found it was way overfilled - but it wouldn't drain. Left it overnight. Siphoned out most of the oil through the dip stick hole today. It starts just fine but the transmission won't engage. Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks

Mechanic's Assistant: When was your last oil change?

Great - hello
Haven't checked transmission level - but we are talking the oil pan
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Will check though
Transmission Mechanic: tsmodie, Other replied 4 months ago

yes, I have seen numerous times where someone accidently removed the wrong plug and drained the trans, instead of the engine, then overfilled the engine and the trans was dry, you need to check the trans fluid first,Tim
