I have a 2005 Forester and something weird is going on with

Customer Question

Good morning! I have a 2005 Forester and something weird is going on with the transmission. I have always kept up with my oil changes, etc. Twice now, as I was slowing down to make a left hand turn, AFTER I took the car out of gear, the RPMs went up to 5000! Out of gear! Very scary as it has always been super reliable. Both times, I pulled over after the turn and turned off the engine, waited a few minutes, then continued. No lights have come on on the dash. My car has always been very reliable, so this is weird.
JA: Have you checked the fuses? The dashboard bulbs?
Customer: I haven't checked the fuses. The dashboard bulbs wouldn't matter, I could hear the engine super revved up. What would the fuses do?
JA: Are you fixing your Forester yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Not fixing myself, but there isn't a dealership here either, just small town mechanics. I've changed the oil, always do regularly.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: That;s all I have. thanks.

Dose the idle flair up with the engine in neutral?

Have you checked the floor mat to make sure its not interfering with the accelerator pedal?
