plug coming from ecm pcm to transmission tr module calls for white or grey .we do not have the old one to look at

What you're seeing in BCM data may not be reliable unless you're using a factory scan tool. You'd need to start elsewhere before being concerned with the BCM in any event.

Does the PRNDL display show the correct gear?
Does it have an Aisin or 68RFE trans?

What happens when you try to actuate the reverse lamps?
