I got a 2003 ford F450 with Allison auto. the temp gauge

I got a 2003 ford F450 with Allison auto. the temp gauge says hot , but trans is not hot and shifts fine. whats wrong
JA: Have you checked the coolant? Have you noticed any leaking?
Customer: yes. no leaks
JA: Are you fixing your F450 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I was going to fix myself , I thought it may have a bad sensor

it goes all the way up to red , but it flickers, some time it will jump back down to normal , and the tow light on steering wheel blinks, but when it goes to normal . it quits blinking .
