Hello, my name is***** the transmission low on fluid can definitely cause damage to the transmission. This can damage the torque converter or the internal bearings. If the fluid did not get too low then you may be fine. I usually remove the transmission pan first to see if there is metal in it. If there is then the transmission needs to be rebuilt. If there is nothing in the pan then I usually fill it back up and double check it. It may be fine. If you need more help please let me know.
