I have a 1999 Ford Escort ZX2 with automatic transmission that just recently start to hard shift from 1st to 2nd no other issues. Fluid levels are ok car has 179k on it mostly all highway miles. I had just heard that I knock sensor maybe the issue can you assist?

Hello, the knock sensor should have no impact on how the transmission shifts. Do a basic inspection first. Make sure the throttle cables move freely, check the transmission fluid level and condition, if it smells badly burnt and black thats not a good sign for the trans. A diagnostic check for codes should be done to make sure there isnt any electronic issues with the engine or transmission. Main issues with this trans is the trans oil pump spool regulator valve can hang up and cause shifiing issues.
