Hi, my name is ***** ***** certified automotive professional with over 25 years experience. I will be glad to assist you with this. Check the wiring at the plug where it connects to the speed sensor and trace it to the wiring harness. If the coating is cracked and the wires are touching the speedometer will not work. If the wiring is good then you will need to replace the speed sensor.

  1. the sensor is mounted on the transfer case tailshaft driver's side .

  2. Unplug the VSS electrical connector.

  3. Unscrew the VSS mounting bolt using a wrench or ratchet and socket.

  4. Pull the speed sensor off the transmission or transfer case.

Install the VSS

  1. Apply a light coat of clean transmission oil to the O-ring seal of the new speed sensor.

  2. Set the new sensor on the tailshaft of the transmission or transfer case.

  3. Start the sensor mounting bolt by hand first. Then tighten the bolt using the wrench or ratchet and socket.

  4. Plug the electrical connector to the VSS.
