My B6 manual transmission is making a weird huming sound

Customer Question

My B6 manual transmission is making a weird huming sound when driving if I press the clutch it goes away. I took the shift knob out and you can feel the sound in the shifter base.

this sounds like the clutch release bearing may be worn

to repair / replace it though, the transmisson will have to be removed

however I will say they can usually go for several thousand miles with the bearing rumbling like this

typically parts are less than $100 if you were to just replace the bearing and its about 6 hours labour

however most of the time people tend to opt to fit an entire clutch while the transmisson is off
