01 Town and Country 3.8L 41TE-AE Trans Erratic Speedometer

Customer Question

01 Town and Country 3.8L 41TE-AE Trans Erratic Speedometer and Transmission related issues: Odometer always works. Speedometer needle erratic, sometimes pegged on zero, sometimes work normal, sometimes bounce around. Trans - Most ofter works perfectly,
shifts very smooth in all gears, automatically shifts up and down beautifully, no slip or hard shifts, could not ask for better transmission performance - it demonstrates this condition whenever the speedometer needle is staying on zero or working normally.
When speedo starts bouncing or becomes otherwise erratic - the trans starts off in second and won't shift and or dees other errant things. assume in Safe Mode: ABS light also on- found damaged front right wheel speed sensor wheel- change axle and still have
ABS light - do not know if related at all to transmission issue. WHAT WE HAVE DONE: Scanned found codes for VSS and TCM. Checked fluid level, full and clean with not evidence of burned fluid, replaced input and output sensors on front of trans. I think the
transmission is fine and suspect an electrical issue somewhere between the VSS - PCM and or TCM but have no dealer level experience nor diagrams nor recommended diagnostic procedures We hope that you can offer a professional opinion based on experience with
this particular vehicle, a solution or suggested diagnostic procedures. We are a small used car dealer and we do most repairs ourselves. We have lift and Autel scanner etc
