Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

The trans is in limp in. When the trans controller sees an issue that could cause damage or believes it doesn't have complete control it will remove power from the solenoid pack and lock you in fourth gear.

There are many possible causes for limp in including solenoids and pressure switches, speed sensors, the line pressure sensor, range sensor, wiring, internal trans issues, or the trans controller itself. The most likely cause would be the solenoid pack which is mounted on top of the valve body.

The first step in diagnosing the problem will be to see what fault codes are stored in the TCM and then it will most likely require electrical testing from there.
