Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
The trans is in limp in. When the trans controller sees an issue that can cause damage or it thinks it doesn't have complete control it will shut off the relay that powers the solenoid pack and locks you in second gear.
There are many causes for limp in including solenoids and pressure switches, the speed sensors, range sensor internal trans issues, the TCM itself and wiring. The most common cause of limp in on this trans is the solenoid pack mounted to the top of the valve body.
The first step in diagnosing the problem will be to see what fault codes are setting in the TCM.
