pull the starter relay out. the prongs should be numbered 1,2,3,5 check for 12 volts in slot 5 in the relay plug

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
There is no numbering in the starter relay prongs vehicle side but there is 12 V to one of the prongs on the vehicle side constant 12 V
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

ok, standby

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
number five is hot all the time do you want me to check continuity in the others?
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

no. put a jumper wire between 5 and 3

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I have done that and it turns over but that’s why bought a new starter relay with the new starter relay nothing happens
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

im not worried about the relay being bad

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

have you tried to start it in neutral

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I did nothing I actually just pulled the Neutral safety switch connection off and I was going to try to check for voltage on the blue and pink wire I believe while the key is try and forward?
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

reconnect it. pull the starter relay back out. check for 12 volts in slot 1 while someone is holding the key in the start position

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
While grounded to the battery I stick the positive post into slot number one I get
7.5mv
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

while the key is in the start position?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
bit of info I bought this truck in to do a timing belt water pump drove it into the shop fine customer never have problems starting this vehicle I finished the job then try to start the vehicle to burp the cooling system and that is where I’m at now no start
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

7.5 mv while the key is in the start position?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Is slot number 1 where the neutral safety switch comes back into the relay?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
the key was in the start position not accessory but start all the way forward
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

yes slot 1 ties into the nss also.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

check the 7.5 amp starter fuse in the same box as the starter relay

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
The 7.5 amp next to the relay is good and when key is turned forward the test light turns on
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

the test light turns on where?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
It turns on at that 7.5 amp fuse next to the relay when the key is turned forward
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

if it turns on at the fuse and there is no voltage in slot 1 of the relay, check for a ground in slot 2 of the relay

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
OK so this is weird when I put my positive voltmeter lead on the battery and put my negative lead to the number 2 slot for ground I get 12 V. However when I turn my voltmeter to ohms and touch negative battery ground and number 2 slot I don’t get a proper reading I get oL displayed
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

2 should read to ground and that is weird. but the bot***** *****ne is if you are not getting 12 volts in slot 1 with the key in the start position, the ECM isn't supplying the voltage

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

schematic

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Any idea of how the ECM could’ve gone bad by working on the front of the engine all we did was disconnect the battery and did the timing belt water pump?
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

I cant answer that. all I can do is tell you that the ECM isn't supplying the necessary voltage. but it is also worrisome that slot 2 isn't reading continuity to ground. I would worry about that first

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

try grounding slot 2 with a wire then stick the relay in on top of the wire.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
are you saying that you’re not positive the computer is bad and try to check for maybe a missing ground somewhere?
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

yes

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago
try grounding slot 2 with a wire then stick the relay in on top of the wire.
Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I did that and try to start it and nothing happened
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
One other thing that I noticed is on the dash I get no check engine light and I believe this check should have that so that’s why I was thinking it was the computer also
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

anytime the check engine light doesn't come on for the self-test you always have to suspect the computer

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
My only thinking is it’s an electrical part and can fail at any time correct?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Do you know if when I get a new computer it has to be reprogrammed to this vehicle or are they pretty much plug-and-play universal of course I mean make and model Specific
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

absolutely ...try disconnecting the ECM connectors and reconnecting them

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago

Can I open the computer to look for anything burn or will that ruin anything any further

I just noticed on the fuse panel inside the vehicle fuse number 45 7.5amp It’s labeled panel. Is not blown but has no power when I probe were plugged into?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question

ok give me some time to trace the diagrams. the panel fuse won't have power unless the lights on turned on

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

did you have the lights turned on when checking power at the panel fuse?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I just did and yes it has power now
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Do you think it could be the ignition switch not sending power to the computer?
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

the ignition switch does not supply pcm voltage.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

it does connect the rest of the vehicle to the power source though

Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

make sure you have power at the IGN fuse under the dash with the ignition switch on

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I did today its good....there are a bunch of relays behind the fuse panel inside the truck? their plugged in to the backside of the fuse block?
Toyota Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 3 months ago

that fuse is how the ignition switch sends power to the pcm. if its good then the switch is doing its job

no one has been paid. when we get into delving into schematics and phone calls I put in request for premium service. so you will be charged only 20 dollars additional because of the fact that its a complex problem and time consuming. Toyota Mechanic: eric remington,

yes, but you will pay all of it, so look before you leap so to speak lol. A premium service I offer when I feel a phone call would be best due to the complexity and time required to provide and answer. A phone call cuts down time.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
