Hi. I just picked...

Hi. I just picked up a 2018 Tacoma a few weeks back. I have had a few people tell me to change the oil at(###) ###-####miles after the “break in” period or else I’ll have metal parts floating around and damaging engine. Toyota told me this is not necessary and that it comes with synthetic oil, with first oil service due at 10k miles. What is the correct answer???

Mechanic's Assistant: When was your last oil change?

It’s a new car

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Tacoma yourself? What have you tried so far?

No

Hi, my name is ***** ***** I will be happy to assist with this today. In some cases, I may need more info to assist better.I apologize for any delay.
I am here Sundays through Thursdays from around 5 am to 2 pm Mountain time.If you respond and I do not respond back right away I will do so as soon as I can.

The right answer is this is not needed. In fact, you don't want to change it out until it is ready as sometimes the factory adds an additive to help lubricate the engine components better during the first 10,000 miles. In the past, on older model vehicles you wanted to change it early due to metal fragments but now on these newer models they are all cleaned out and no oil change is needed until it calls for the service due which is at 10,000 miles.

If more help is needed, use the reply tab to continue our conversation. If no further assistance is needed, kindly rate my service, your 5-star rating is appreciated ( should be a link to click on here or above). You can rate at any time and we can continue to work on your question as this will not close out your question.I work on delivering the best answer and help here but in some cases, it can be difficult to do without seeing the vehicle.

Thanks Pete
