Mechanic's Assistant: What year is your Solara?

2005

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Solara yourself? What have you tried so far?

No, not a mechanic; but don't want to get ripped off, the noise is only while the clutch is in or is in neatural

Mechanic's Assistant: Has the clutch been slipping? Are you having any trouble shifting?

No trouble, very strong clutch, had new clutch put in maybe 25,000 miles ago

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

We did let it seat for maybe two months and the noise stopped, but has return say after 500 miles

Okay just need a little clarification. You start the vehicle up your foot is on the clutch pedal and the pedal is on the floor with the engine idling in any gear or neutral with the clutch pedal on the floor is the noise there? Put the vehicle in neutral foot on the brake release the clutch pedal does the noise go away or does the noise get louder when the clutch pedal is released?

No, not now, I started the car, clutch in, no noise, in neutral let clutch out, noise is there
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Hello

You do not have a clutch release or throw out bearing noise. That would be prevalent or predominate when the clutch pedal is pushed. If you have it in neutral and release the clutch pedal the bearing slides back off of the pressure plate and the input shaft spins on the transmission the most common problem is the input shaft bearing in the transmission. There is a remote chance you could have a counterbalance shaft bearing issue that spins also. Either way the transmission will have to come apart to inspect which bearing is making noise. If you need any additional information regarding this issue feel free to reply and I will get back to you. Otherwise if you have not done so please do not forget to rate the assistance I've given to you today at three or higher and a five would be awesome. You.
