Customer Question
My license plate lights...

My license plate lights and 3rd brake light are out, could this be a fuse issue?

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the brake fluid? How's the level and when was it last changed?

Just had my rear brakes fixed. My tail light brakes work fine

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Toyota?

And they did a flush 2007 tundra

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Tundra yourself? What have you tried so far?

For this i have looked at fuses, but may have missed one. the brakes i took in to a mechanic

I don't think it's a fuse issue, all brake lights are on the same fuse and the license light is on the same fuse as the tail lights. Have you checked the bulbs for the non working lights?

tried to get the brake light out, but was unsuccessful, haven't checked the plate lights yet. thought they may have been on the same circuit
Toyota Mechanic: Ted Ritter, Toyota Master Tech replied 4 months ago

The center brake light cover should have two phillips screws to remove, let me know about the bulbs and if you have a test light or voltmeter to check for voltage to the lights if necessary.

After removing the two screws the lens can be pulled off to get the bulbs out.

I have a 2000 toyota tundra. A few months ago in July, I had my rear brake shoes replaced and a ball joint replaced. The minute I drove it from the mechanic's garage I knew something was wrong. I took it right back and they said some dirt had wedged itself between my rotor and front hub. They "fixed" something. A week or so later my brakes started dragging so I decided instead of going to the crappy repair shop I had it at, I would take it to the dealership. They said that I needed to have my drums re-surfaced. They did that and things were good for a week or so and then my brakes started dragging again. How did I know? Because my brakes smelled after driving and the wheels were hot to the touch. So I took it back to the dealership and they said that I needed to have them adjusted. They adjusted them and things were fine for another week and then they started dragging again. This time I took my truck to a friend mechanic who I thought I could trust. It's been at his shop three times in the last four weeks for the same problem. Brake dragging. The brake cylinders have been replaced, the drums re-surfaced several times, the shoes replaced three times and the star adjuster was replaced on one side and the springs were replaced on both sides. Problem still isn't fixed. I am getting about 9 miles per gallon right now because of this. What should I do? The bell cranks are fine and the parking brake is releasing... … read more
