The P0 770 code means the lock and did not occur when it was commanded to. The setting criteria is as follows. When driving in the lock up range normal driving at about 50 mph, or lockup remains on in the lockup off range, it is a two trip detection logic the only other possible option is if lockup is on and there is a clutch or brake slippage or gear broken in the transmission. That being said it still should not be engaging or causing the light to come on before that unless something in the solenoid valve is stuck and you're getting internal pressure. 50 miles per hour is not always a hard rule or is 45mph, lockup can actually occur in third-year on light acceleration also. Which would put you even as low as 40 mph given the data list one was 47 mph and you were in close loop at hundred and 72°. I'm reasonably certain but it's been a while since I worked on a 2001 but lockup occurs in third-gear potentially depending on the load then unlocks to shift to 4th,. Normally we don't see many failures or debris stuck in the solenoid valve unless the fluid is extremely dirty about 90% of the time it ends up being a bad lockup plate in the converter on this particular model.
