Start by checking the AM1 fuse located in the fuse box under the hood.

Is the truck automatic or manual?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Fuse is good automatic
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Ok, I need to have you check the STA fuse for power when you turn the key to start.

This is in the fuse box inside the truck and should only get power in the start position.

Let me know.

I found the ignition wire traced it to fuse panel inside when I turn key it sends power to 7.5 amp fuse but that fuse has power before I turn key
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
You still there
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Can still get ansers
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I don't no if I have been cut off please respond
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Sorry, winter storm, my internet is cutting out.

According to the wiring diagram you shouldn't have any power on that wire with the key off.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Do you hear the starter relay under the hood activate when you turn the key to start? You should hear it click

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
No sir but the ignition wire only has power when key is turned but 7.5 fuse has power when key is turned on not start position
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

I don't know why that is, it get's power from the ignition switch according to the wiring diagram and only when its in start.

This is supposed to be the power supply to the starter relay.

What color is this wire you are tracing?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Black with test light it powers up with keyed turned to start
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Ok, we are good thre.

I need you to locate the starter relay, pull it and flip it over. There should be tiny numbers on the bottom. I need to have you get a helper and check for power on the slots for #1 and #5. I there isn't any numbers, then check for power on 2 of the slots with the key in the start position and let me know.

Thanks.

There are four post only post that has power is heavy white wire going to starter
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

If that were the case the starter should crank.

Without the relay in there should not be power to that wire at all.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Black/white stripe is the starter wire. The solid white is the power from the key.

This is telling me there is a problem with the park/neutral switch on the transmission. There should be power on the solid green wire as well.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I'm sorry thatwhite wire goes to battery
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

It should be coming off the ignition switch, are you sure you are looking at the starter relay.

I jumped across starter relay and it turns over but doesn't start
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Ok you are bypassing the neutral safety switch when you do that.

Did you have the key on?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
it tryed to start acted like it may have had a little bit of gas but maybe no fuel coming " no power to fuel pump maybe"
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Did or do you have power to two slots on the starter relay?

Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Did the truck run before it stopped starting?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
noisues
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Ok, this is what I think needs to be done. You are going to have to go under the truck to the switch under the shift linkage and check for power on the black/yellow striped wire. Key in the start position, then check for power on the solid orange wire. If there isn't any power, replace the switch, if there is, then that wire has to be broken between the switch and the starter relay.

I think we have to get it cranking normally before it's going to start.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Ok I have no power to switch can you tell me which wire coming out of inside fuse panel goes to starter relay
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

It should be getting power from the 7.5 amp ST fuse. When the key is in the start position. If you don't have power on it in the start position and the fuse is good, then the wire is broken someplace. That wire is yellow right to the fuse box.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
No that wire is black there is no yellow I have power to both sides of 7.5 fuse when in start position which wire leaves fuse pannel
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Are you saying the switch on the transmission doesn't have a yellow wire on it or are you talking about some other switch?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
There is no power muetral switch but I am tracing ignition wire to see where power stops but I don't no which wire out of fuse pannel takes power to start relay
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Thanks for your pasince
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Yellow/grey stripe goes from the fuse, through the switch and to the relay.I missed that it had a gray stripe, but that's the one that should have power. That's also the color out of the fuse box after the ST fuse

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
From ignition switch I have power to black wire when held in start position it goes to fuse pannel inside cab but I don't no which wire to check coming out
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
When the airbag deployed would computer shut this down
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

What? You didn't mention the airbag deployed on this.

Anyhow, this yellow/gray is coming out of the fuse panel on one of these connectors

I can't figure out which connector on the fuse box though, you just have to dig until you find the yellow with a grat stripe

Have you replaced the spiral cable?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
What is spiral cable
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

The spiral cable is the one in the steering column the air bag connects to. This will run the ignition, horn, wipers and so forth. It seems to be if you have power to the fuse box then you should be ok with the cable that's in there, but it might explain why the truck isn't starting. Not the cranking so much, but the actual starting when you had it cranking yesterday. It could also explain why you have power on the fuse without the key being on. It's maybe shorted out in there.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
The only time I have power to fuse is when key is turned to start position
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Ok, then you need to locate the break in the yellow gray wire or run a new wire, but you have to find it where it's coming out of the fuse box to test it.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

At the switch it's going to be yellow/gray or black/yellow, they are showing both in the diagram, so make sure you tested correctly.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I pulled fuse box down there is no yellow - grey wire
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

All I have is the wiring diagram, is there a black/yellow? If there is, test it for power with the key only in the start position, otherwise, not sure what to say. There should be a yellow/gray wire in there.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
There isn't either one but the black wire is the only one that powers up when key is in start position
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I am sending a diagram of the back of the fuse box. I have highlighted the connector pin that should be this wire. yellow/gray. If you look you can see where the connector is on the back of the fuse box. Inside the truck.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
I have no power coming out on that terminal
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

You need to replace this fuse box then. If the fuse is hot on both sides, then it should be giving you power at that terminal in the start position.

Ok i have parts truck that is 2000 should b the same right
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

I believe it will be the same, I am not sure if it's got to be programmed or anything on one of this age. I would do the swap and see what happens.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Can you tell me where yellow - grey wire go's after inside fuse box
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
The Nentral safety switch has power to one wire is the actual switch in the transmision
Toyota Mechanic: carguy1, auto technician replied 4 months ago

That yellow/gray is coming out of the fuse box, from there I can't tell where it's running, but if you have power to the yellow/gray on the switch on the side of the transmission, then that issue should be resolved.

If you don't have any power on any other wires when the key is in the start position out of the switch on the transmission, then this means the switch is bad.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago

Might be on the other side of the transmission, I believe you are looking at the transfer case linkage because I don't see any cooler lines in the way in your pics.

There is another electric outlet up high on the other side

Any linkage on the other side and a couple of transmission cooler lines going to the radiator? This should be behind the lines where they connect to the transmission.
