I'm trying to figure out why a 2001 Highlander has no spark and refuses to start. I've changed the cam and crank sensor, had the computer checked, timing is correct, the wires from the sensor to the computer are good, but still no spark. Please help

Good morning,

Do you have the 4 or 6 cylinder highlander?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
4 cylinder 2.4

I'm at work, can't use the phone right now
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Sorry, the phone call thing is automated- not generated by me.

I'm looking over the diagrams for the 4 cylinder. As far as you can tell everything is fine except spark right?

Does the check engine light blink while you are cranking the engine?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
No, it does not
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Does your model have the security light on the dash?

Passive security on this year model was an option so it might not have one.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Already checked security and that's not the issue either.
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
The check engine light started to blink
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Sorry for the delay, this is a weird one. Normally when we have no spark it's a bad crank position sensor, but you already replaced that.

The PCM seems to be communicating normally with a scan tool right?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
It is, no fault codes registered. I work in a shop and believe me we've gone through the normal motions and still nothing
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Can you see RPM data on the scan tool while cranking?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
it registers. Which tells me the crank sensor is good
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Are you getting injector pulse?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I'm getting injector pulse
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Are you getting power to the ignition coil?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

12 volts on each one from the PCM, but no spark?

Very weird.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Exactly my point, spark plugs are new as well. Can't figure out how this is possible
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Anything coming from the white wire on the ignition coils?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
What do you mean if anything is coming from the white wire?
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

The white wire on the ignition coil connector is a signal wire that runs back to the PCM. It should have a voltage signal when cranking.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I do get a voltage signal
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

Everything is working.

12 volts on the IGN2 fuse?

sir
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Hello?!?
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

I'm going to have to step out for a little bit.

If you have voltage and signals to the coils and no spark from any of them I would probably try swapping them out.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

You have good solid ground on the white/black wire on each of the coils also right?
