Customer Question
The headlights are t...

The headlights are t working.

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fuses? Have you checked the bulbs?

I don’t have a fuse diagram so I don’t know which ones are to the headlight but all of the ones I can see look good.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Toyota?

They are both out so I doubt it’s the bulbs

Mechanic's Assistant: What year is your Toyota?

1983 Toyota Pickup 4x4

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?

I am. I’ve checked the headlight relays and they’re both good.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I think it’s a short but I do t know how to find ir

Twilights work. Running lights work. Both high and low beam are out
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I’ve checked for voltage at the headlight connectors and there isn’t any. They were pretty corroded but I cleaned them as best I could. I also checked for voltage underneath the steering column the red wire with white tracer, per something I read online, there isn’t any power there
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
The truck sat for awhile but I’m fairly certain it happened at once

Toyota Mechanic: Randall C, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Ok none of the three terminals has any voltage
Toyota Mechanic: Randall C, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

odd, are 100% sure? triple test. test your meter. I say this as same power source controls turns and hazards which I assume work

Toyota Mechanic: Randall C, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

try with key ON

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I tested the meter by plugging into the tailight terminals and got 12 v in one of the terminals. The turn signals work but they didn’t until yesterday when I replaced the relay and cleaned the connections in the switch at the steering wheel
Toyota Mechanic: Randall C, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

ok, still test the same terminals with key ON

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
With the key on each terminal registered .03 v and then normalized to zero again.
Toyota Mechanic: Randall C, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

I am unsure, I feel a connection problem on the RED/Blue wire at the headlight relay. This would mean you have to remove fuse block where relay is and check the RED/Blue wire. NO way for it to be a fuse link as turns now working so I have to say some kind of connection problem, You are to have 12 volts on the Red/Blue wire under relay, Since no 12 volts at headlightrelay? has to be a power /connection problem at the relay terminal for the RED / Blue wire. If you can read a wiring diagram>? I have attached it. Look at the headlight relay in the picture. Im not there so a little hard to diagnose BUT, NO power at the relay? you have to have power on one terminal. Her is the wiring diagram link
