I've been dealing with grinding noise coming from the front…

Customer Question
I've been dealing with...

I've been dealing with grinding noise coming from the front for a while now with my 2009 RAV4.

Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?

Oh, been going on for 2-3 years. I've replaced the brake pads, rotors, and just recently the front struts.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your RAV4 yourself? What have you tried so far?

The noise went away for a month after replacing the struts. Came back today.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

My mechanic does the work. It's so annoying.

Hi im kevin when does this noise occurr?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
It occurs whenever I apply the brakes.
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
I hear the noise just before the car comes to a full stop, as I press the brakes more.
Toyota Mechanic: Kevin, Auto Mechanic replied 5 months ago

Ok if its occurring when beakes are depressed then is brake related .this sounds alot like part of the rotor has a lip or the guard plate behind rotor is touching rotor

I don't hear it when I initially press the brakes. The grinding noise from the front only becomes noticeable right before the car comes to a complete stop. I've had rotor work done, rotor replaced and that still did not help. Could this be due to some other part?
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
It's not a squeak noise. More like a loud grinding sound.
Toyota Mechanic: Kevin, Auto Mechanic replied 5 months ago

Either of these can cause this .ive also seen bad rotors cause this .

Any other part I should check?
Toyota Mechanic: Kevin, Auto Mechanic replied 5 months ago

No if its only occurring during the braking period it will only be brake related .i believe they disturbed something when fitting struts that stopped noise for a while
