It has the P500 code

Thanx for that info , I will check that and get back with an answer.

Ask Your Own Toyota Question

What Does P0500 Code Mean?

OBD-II Code P0500 is defined as a Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction

What Does this Mean?

The purpose of the Vehicle Speed Sensor is to send data or "tell" the power-train control module or PCM how fast the vehicle is going. This information is sent to the speedometer where the road speed is displayed in miles per hour or kilometers per hour. In addition, this information is usually shared with other vehicle systems such as the Transmission, ABS, Traction Control and Power Steering. The Vehicle Speed Sensor can be located in a number of places such as the rear differential, an output shaft of the transmission, in or near a wheel hub or be part of or attached to, the speedometer.

P0500 Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • Vehicle may not shift properly
  • Speedometer may not operate correctly
  • In some cases, there are no adverse conditions noticed by the driver
  • In some cases, there may be performance problems and/or shifting problems.
  • Other warning lights may come on such as the ABS light and Traction Control light.

Common Problems That Trigger the P0500 Code

  • Defective Vehicle Speed Sensor
  • Defective Speedometer
  • Vehicle Speed Sensor wiring or connector
  • Communication (CAN) bus problems
  • Defective transmission or differential Vehicle Speed Sensor drive gear

Three terminal speed sensor connector has ground on the center terminal , 5.2 volts w ignition on on one terminal, and nothing on the other. Shouldn’t there be 12 volts on one terminal w switch on?

no this comes through the ECU

How then do I check speed sensor on the car , as I told you , it has been replaced?

I will have to access that info through our shop manual print , scan and send it off as an attachment to you through this sight which costs me time and money , so if you want me to proceed I will offer a service that will allow me to do so. let me know.
