hello, does the engine seem to turn over fast enough but not fire up or is it completely dead, no dash lights or ready light?

Hi, I have all sash lights, but when I push the start button nothing happens
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
It was ok, just a week ago, all sash lights showed up and then it never started anymore
Toyota Mechanic: Ted Ritter, Toyota Master Tech replied 7 months ago

Thanks for the reply

Check the 12 volt auxiliary battery located in the trunk, you can check the voltage under the hood in the fuse box there is a red cover with a plus sign on it, must have 12 volts there, if not try jump starting at that access terminal with another car or jumper battery, if it starts the battery may need to be replaced if it's more than 4 years old or if charging it won't bring it above 11.8 volts.

I'll check it tomorrow morning, by the way I have a code , it says, change the hybrid battery, does it affect?
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Good morning, I checked the battery, it has 12.1 volts
Toyota Mechanic: Ted Ritter, Toyota Master Tech replied 7 months ago

Thanks for the reply, what is the exact diagnostic code you are getting, the code number?

Ask Your Own Toyota Question
Toyota Mechanic: Ted Ritter, Toyota Master Tech replied 7 months ago

The engine is turned over by the motor generator that is powered by the hybrid battery so this looks like it may be the problem.

I had another one, had the same issue, but it was starting,
So you meant, hybrid battery starts the car gas engine?
Toyota Mechanic: Ted Ritter, Toyota Master Tech replied 7 months ago

yes, there is no "starter" the engine is turned over by the MG providing the system is working properly, if the HV battery is weak it won't turn the engine over, this can also be caused by an input signal fault to the HV control computer that's why the codes are important. If it was already diagnosed as having a defective HV battery then the solution is to replace it.

how can I replace it? When I disconnect the battery, should I reprogram anything, or just install a new battery?
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Code are P0A80
P2118 actuator control motor

Ok, thanks
Toyota Mechanic: Ted Ritter, Toyota Master Tech replied 7 months ago

The P0A80 is for a cell failure of the HV battery, the computer detects uneven battery module voltages. There is no reprogramming necessary when replacing the HV battery. I would recommend getting the factory step by step instructions if you are planning to do this yourself, there are high voltages involved and certain precautions are required. Unless you have a repair manual you can go to <techinfo.toyota.com>

download the information you need, there is a charge of around $20 for 24 hour access. There are aftermarket battery suppliers online unless you decide to go with a factory unit, they usually don't come complete and you will have to open the case to use your existing battery computer and the wiring to connect all the cells together, usually sold as an installation kit.
