My 2002 Highlander sometimes won't shift into high gear.

Customer Question

My 2002 Highlander sometimes won't shift into high gear.
JA: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?
Customer: 95000 miles and no
JA: Are you fixing your Highlander yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: it just started happening, no, it's not likely I'll fix it myself. All I've done to date is make sure the fluid is at the correct level.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no

Good morning and Happy New Year. My name is ***** ***** I will be assisting you today. Are there any noticeable leaks? Have you had the fluid level checked?Have you noticed if the check engine light was on?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No leaks, fluid level is good, engine light is on.

If you have the vehicle checked for codes you will probably get a code for the transmission shift solenoid. If that's the case, you can change this and be ok. I would also change the filter and fluid. There is not too much that you can do to a transmission, so if these things don't work, I would consider rebuilding or replacing,
