I'm changing to catalytic converters are there any special tools I need I cant get the manifold bolts off
JA: Has the vehicle been "scoped out"?
Customer: I don't know what this means. I keep getting check engine and the exhaust is smelling bad
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: 2002 Toyota tundra 4.7 liter 237000 miles on it
JA: Are you fixing your Tundra yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I have the new cat and trying to replace them but cant get the manifold bolt-nuts loose to remove them
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

These bolts have been in for 14yrs subjected to intense heat every day and tend to be heat corroded into place. You can try to remove them with an impact gun, but they will likely snap.

They need to be heated with an acetylene torch and then loosened. In some cases they still wont break loose and that point, they are torched off and new bolts and nuts used.
