My 2007 Avalon has my key in the ignition and it will not

Customer Question

My 2007 Avalon has my key in the ignition and it will not come out, I have tried the steering wheel making sure the vehicle is in park and I just can't get the key out of the ignition
JA: Do you have brake lights? Have any trouble codes popped up?
Customer: No codes I will check the brake lights
JA: Are you fixing your Avalon yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Have had zero problems with it until last night since I bought it 3 months ago, I have driven Chevy's for the last 25 years but this was too good of a deal to pass. I was hoping to find out what the problem is and see if I can fix it.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Do you need to know if the brake lights are working?

Hello my name is***** am an ASE Master Technician and I am glad to help you out with your question.

Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

This is most likely a problem with the key interlock.

Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

You can sometime dissemble the interlock and add some grease to get it moving freely again.

Do I need to pull the dash to get at this key interlock?
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

You will have to remove this trim panel.
