Trying to remove the alarm harness from the ignition switch,

Customer Question

trying to remove the alarm harness from the ignition switch
JA: Has the car been stalling out?
Customer: so the battery died, replaced the battery and the second I touched the neg to the battery the alarm goes off
JA: What is the model/year of your Toyota?
Customer: from a post on this site I see the fix but i'm not sure what the alarm harness looks like
JA: What year is your Toyota?
Customer: 2005 highlander
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: i disconnected the wires from the back of the little red blinking light, removed the steering column so i can try to locate the alarm harness to unplug from the ignition switch
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: put a new battery in already, cables are good to go, the car radio, lights, etc work but when i turn the key it does nothing, no sound

Thanks for posting

The aftermarket alarm installers put in a black relay about 1 inch diameter. it should be right near the steering column, there are a couple of heavy wires and two thinner wires, , remove the relay then splice the wires back together with the colors matching, this will eliminate the starter disable feature. Remove the black box under the dash and any wires that are connected to the car's harness , they usually are scotchlocked on and you can just pull them off, you may have to remove the left kick panel.
