Hello, Eddie here, Is the key just a bare metal key? Also, the year of your Highlander is a 2012 model? or a 2013 model correct?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Bare metal with plastic coated head 2013 I think
Expert:  Edward replied 1 year ago.

If it looks like this, then it may work provided it's programmed to the vehicle.

If the spare you have looks like this, then no it will not.

Does that answer your question sufficiently? Do you have any further questions? thank you.

lookslike that

It looks like the first picture I sent , or the second picture?

Expert:  Edward replied 1 year ago.

The second picture I sent is just a bare metal key, and while it would open the doors, it would not start the vehicle as it has no transponder in the key so it wouldn't pass the security feature of the immobilizer.

First picture
Expert:  Edward replied 1 year ago.

Alright, If it looks like the first picture and it is indeed programmed, then I have no reason to doubt that it should start the car.

Expert:  Edward replied 1 year ago.

It may be a valet key, in that case it may not open the glove box. fyi. Do you have any further questions?
