I am changing the timing belt on a 2007 Toyota Highlander 3MZFE

Customer Question

I am changing the timing belt on a 2007 Toyota Highlander 3MZFE 6 Cyl engine. The shop manual states the following "Only wipe the pulleys; do not use any cleansing agent."
Unfortunately, I read this after I cleaned both pulleys with Gunk Engine Degreaser, water and then Windex and water. The pulleys are dry and are have no perceptible residue. I am worried that the cleaning may have left a microscopic residue that would allow the belt to slip, rot the belt, or the pulleys. Should I buy new pulleys?

Hello. Welcome to Just Answer. Please allow me to assist you. You do not need new pulleys. I would recommend you spray the pulleys with aerosol brake cleaner spray. Then let them air dry. Then install your belt.
