Pick up: My sons 94 Toyota up has 22Re motor and if it drops

Customer Question

My sons 94 Toyota up has 22Re motor and if it drops below 1200rpms it will die and then won't restart. It's manual so he is able to pop start it by pushing otherwise it must set for a while b4 it starts again. He is at school but he has a mechanic telling him it could be the crank sensor. Any ideas?

hello, thanks for posting your questionWhen it doesn't start is it a matter of the engine cranking over but not firing up? Or does the engine do nothing, no noise or anything?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
When it's cold it starts right up, but after its warm if you don't keep the rpms up above 1200 she dies, or if you shut it off it won't start till it cools down, just turns and turns no attempt to fire. But we can pop start in 2nd no problem

And she will only idle till she is warm then she shuts off,

Thanks for the rply, There are two coolant temp sensors on this engine, one for the engine coolant temp gauge on the dash and one for the computer, the one for the gauge has one wire, the one for the computer has a two wire connector, try replacing that one.

Tried changing the temp control sensor, did nothing still does, cleaned throttle body again still does, changed throttle body still dies, ordered new mass air flow and changed it and still does same thing. Any other ideas why this truck won't idle and won't start when warm except for pop starting?

Could it be catalytic converter?
