My name is ***** ***** I am a professional here at Just Answer. I noticed that your question had not received a response and thought I would see if you still need help with this.I apologize for the delay and I hope I can still assist you with this here.

If the lift gate will not release this can be due to an issue with the lift gate latch itself.I have seen the latch fail in the past before needing replaced for this issue here.I would have the latch inspected/tested to see if it needs replaced for sure. This may require removal of the door paneling at the lift gate to check and test it which may damage the paneling to where it would need repaired or replaced after this is done.Unfortunately the only other option if the lift gate is stuck closed is to see if a dealer or lock smith can use their tools to open the lift gate to check and replace the latch.
