Only the malfunction indicator lamp comes on the dash when the key is inserted. The car won't start but the lights will turn on.

Hello, thanks for posting

This is most likely due to a discharged 12 volt auxiliary battery which is located in the trunk in the right side fender well, try jump starting it with another car, if it then starts replace this battery. If you have a voltmeter measure the battery voltage, it must be 11.8 volts or more, you can access the battery without going into the trunk, open the hood and open the large fuse box near the left headlight, there is a red cover with a plus sign on it this connects directly to the battery in the trunk and voltage can be measured there or it can be jump started from there.
