Customer Question

This issue is like the one I'm experiencing. Same model, same year. Avalon 2006. Multimeter on the battery shows 12+ volts. Pushing the start button causes everything electrical to flash like disco lights seemingly randomly. When I press the brake pedal during the disco show, it sometimes stops the show...seems like a short somewhere.

Your battery is dead and the car will have to be jumpstarted to make the engine run and the battery replaced to fix the problem for good. The meter is simply showing the value of what is called a "surface charge" as soon as any real demand is put on the battery the voltage is dropping too low to start the car.
