Hello, thanks for posting

If the engine is overheating it can cause the a/c to stop working the problem is the overheating of the engine.

Check to make sure the electric cooling fan is working, when turning the a/c on both cooling fans should work. If not let me know, it may be a thermostat problem as well or possibly a partially restricted radiator. At this point I don't know if anything was tried yet. Basically if the fans are working try replacing the thermostat and go from there, please let me know if you have any questions about my comments so far, thank you.
