Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If it does unlock and the handles feel normal when trying to open it but the door doesn't release then most likely the latch has failed. If something foreign was closed in the door or there was an adjustment issue with the door or striker leading up to this then it could prevent it from opening easily, but I expect you would have known either of these was happening.

If adjustment or something foreign closed in the door doesn't appear to be an issue then most likely the latch has failed and will need to be replaced.

okay. Is the latch one piece? Does it have a name or part number with which to order said latch? Does the door or door panel have to be removed to install it?

Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 2 years ago.
Yes, the door panel has to be removed to access the latches.
There is a latch in the front of the door and one in the rear. The part number for the front is(###) ###-####00, the rear is(###) ###-####00.
